Summer Slowing Down 🌿
Share
Summer in the city carries its own rhythm. People imagine it buzzing with rooftop evenings, long walks, endless outings under the sun... but for me, it often feels like the opposite. The heat makes me want to pause, soften, stay indoors a little more. Maybe it’s Mercury retrograde adding its pull, maybe it’s just me being team winter forever (!!) but this season has been about slowing down, taking things in, and reconnecting with what matters most.
These past few weeks have been filled with small, grounding moments. The other day, I found myself in a private garden in Chelsea, picking up my niece from a birthday party. Children ran around barefoot, laughing as they tipped buckets of water over their heads to cool off. The garden wasn’t open to the public, but it reminded me how much life shifts when you step into a green space, even for just a little while. Since then, I’ve been making a list of city gardens to explore this summer, because sometimes all you need is a patch of leaves and flowers to feel like you’ve taken a tiny vacation.
Another ritual that’s been holding me is Wednesday morning tea meditation at Puerh Brooklyn. It’s a quiet, grounding practice where we gather in silence, sip tea, and let time stretch open for a moment. In a city that never stops moving, having a space where everything slows feels like pure magic. (If you happen to be in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, you must not miss a visit to their space!!)
And through it all, I’ve been creating. Painting, cutting, gluing, letting color tell me where to go next. Even with lulaland’s clothing collections still on pause, this dream has simply shifted forms for the time being. It now lives in the art I make, in commissions that become small, personal worlds for the homes they’re meant for. You can see what’s available and request a piece made just for you, anytime (just click ARTWORKS in the menu ;) During July and August, I’m also offering 20% off all collages, as I make space for new ideas to arrive!
This slower season feels like a reminder that we don’t always have to be out there doing, chasing, producing. Sometimes the most beautiful part of summer is the pause it offers:  the chance to breathe, to reconnect, to notice the small wonders we might otherwise miss.
With warmth and imagination,
Lula 🌸
