In a patch of green, hidden in the city

In a patch of green, hidden in the city

A few weeks ago, I picked up my niece from a birthday party at the Jeff Dullea Intergenerational Garden at the Penn South Coop in Chelsea. It was nearly 100 degrees that day, and the girls were laughing, running around, and cooling off under buckets of water…

Spending a little time there, I was lucky as It’s not a public community garden—you can’t just wander in— surrounded by blooming flowers and tiny growing things, gave me a gentle idea for how to spend those moments when I desperately need some outside time in the heat of the summer: visiting more gardens around NY!

Quiet, leafy spaces hidden between buildings. A slow garden walk instead of a busy street. I’m making a little list of places I want to visit.

Some that are calling to me to go next:

🌱 El Sol Brillante, East Village
🌿 6BC Botanical Garden, Avenue B
🍃 Clinton Community Garden, Midtown

If you're spending the summer in a city too, I highly recommend some green in your week.
Even a quick visit to a garden can feel like a tiny vacation.

If you are in NY, you can explore the NYC Parks website to find public community gardens and green spaces near you. If you have a favorite, I’d love to hear it!
